Our students are valued at the university and we recognize that financial need is a big factor in education. This grant is designed to bridge the gaps between the availability of financial aid and predetermined estimates of individual financial need. Financial need is determined using a combination of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information and parameters established by the University. This grant is separate from the Federal PELL Grant, and many students who may not be eligible for a PELL Grant are eligible for the University Investment Grant.
Grant eligibility is determined automatically using information collected during the completion of the FAFSA. A separate application is not required for the assessment of an Investment Grant. Please note that eligibility cannot be determined until the FAFSA has been received and the accompanying Financial Aid requirements have been completed (ie verification, conflicting information, etc.).
If you receive a University-funded scholarship, grant, book voucher or additional gift aid, your Investment Scholarship award will be reduced by the amount of your new funded award -University. If you receive gift aid from a source outside the University, your current Investment Grant award will be reduced only as required by the terms and conditions of the new award. The United States Department of Education provides approximately $150 billion in financial aid each year through grants, student loans, and other programs. Some federal grants are grants or non-repayable gift grants; other aid consists of student loans that must be repaid. To be considered for federal aid, you must complete the FAFSA.
State aid is funded by your state of residence. accepts all state aid, but options for out-of-state students may be limited. Typically, states provide assistance to encourage residents to study in their states, but some out-of-state assistance is available.
Private aid is aid financed by an external organisation. This help can be in the form of scholarships, loans or grants to cover university costs.
When To Register
Special grants and scholarships are generally considered gift aid that you do not have to pay back. Many grants and scholarships can be combined, so apply as much as possible. Thousands of options are available, but some will have very specific eligibility criteria.
Private loans are based on your credit history and must be repaid. Students are encouraged to avoid private loans if possible because these loans often have higher interest rates and are not eligible for federal repayment plan options.
