BOSTON (AP) — A package exploded on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston on Tuesday, and the college said a staff member suffered minor injuries.

Authorities said another suspicious package was found at a major art museum and the FBI was assisting in the investigation.
The package that exploded was one of two that were reported to police in the evening. Boston bomb squad neutralized a second package near the city’s Museum of Fine Arts, which sits on the edge of the northeast campus.
NBC Boston reported that the package, which exploded, exploded as it was being opened in the university’s Holmes Hall, which houses the university’s creative writing program and its women’s, gender, and sexuality studies program. He said the FBI is supporting the investigation.

Authorities declined to comment, but Northeastern spokeswoman Shannon Nargi said in a statement that an unidentified university employee sustained minor hand injuries in the blast. Felipe Colon, a Boston police superintendent, later described the victim as a 45-year-old man.
Police arrived on campus just before 7:30 pm, and the university asked students who had gathered in the lobby for an evening journalism class to evacuate the building.
Northeastern is a private university in downtown Boston with approximately 16,000 undergraduate students. WCVB-TV said one of its reporters, Mike Beaudet, was giving a class there at the time. Beaudet told the station his class was moved outside but that neither he nor his students heard an explosion.

Northeastern Police Chief Michael Davis told reporters the campus was safe. Boston Police did not say whether any other suspicious packages were found.
“We are monitoring the situation in Northeastern and stand ready to work with the university and our law enforcement partners on any allegations that may develop,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said, promising “a full investigation to determine exactly what happened. here.”
Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, both on the other side of the Charles River that separates Boston from Cambridge, said they were increasing patrols on their campuses as a precaution and urging students and faculty to report anything suspicious.

Dr. Laura Vertatschitschis Senior Researcher at Systems & Technology Research (STR). She is a radar systems expert with experience and publications in the fields of numerical modeling of ionospheric scattering phenomena, broadband digital signal processing, and digital receiver instrumentation for radar and astrophysics applications. During his PhD. she (University of Washington, Department of Electrical Engineering) has developed a passive radar system that uses over-the-air digital television broadcasting for aircraft detection. During her postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, she developed and implemented broadband digital reception systems for the Event Horizon Telescope, a global sub-mm radio deployment.
